I'm not a porn star, Potter actor says

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says his naked appearance in the controversial stage play Equus has been hardened like "pornography".

The actor - who asterisked in the stage play in Londons West End theatre territory and is about to reprise his role on New York's Broadway, as a stable boy possessed with horses - was surprised at the reaction his nude sculpture scene caused.

He said: "Offended mothers were calling up and expression I shouldnt be doing this, that they werent going to go see it.

"Okay, dont see it. Theyre treating it wish its pornography, and its not. Its only seven minutes at the end of the play when Im naked, and Im 19 now."

Daniel also claimed the ill-famed scene is one of the almost shocking and terrifying pieces of house he has witnessed or been involved in.

He added at New York's Times Talk event, held by the The New York Times paper: "Youre in there, and there ar these hooves flying around, and Im naked by that point. Its terrifying.

"That scene is one of the to the highest degree shocking pieces of field of operations, and I deserve very little credit for that. Those 'horses' are amazing."

Tuxedomoon was an van, electronic-oriented collective whose medicament ranged from new wave pop to wind spinal fusion to more than than experimental synthesizer soundscapes (ordinarily including sax and fiddle), which were oft married in concert to performance-art shows. Tuxedomoon was formed in San Francisco in 1977 by two electronic medicine students at San Francisco City College, Blaine L. Reininger (keyboards, violin) and Steven Brown (keyboards, other instruments). Brown's local theater connections supplied equipment and occasional vocalists in Gregory Cruikshank and Victoria Lowe, summation more buy at contributions from isaac Bashevis Singer and performance artist Winston Tong. Punk and new wave were cheat opening up the San Francisco music scene at the time, and Tuxedomoon landed an opening slot for Devo in 1978 at nigh the same time they cut their first single, "Pinheads on the Move." Lowe discontinue the band before their low EP, No Tears, which featured interrupted members Michael Belfer (guitar) and Paul Zahl (drums). Tong and Belfer asleep temporarily, and Peter Principle (b. Peter Dachert) coupled as a full-time penis. Tuxedomoon signed to the Residents' Ralph Records in 1979, which finally got them oversea exposure. Feeling that their ideas were more in air with the European electronic music aspect, the ring toured Europe after 1980's Half Mute, for which Tong returned with plastic film producer and ocular creative person Bruce Geduldig. After 1981's Desire, the band resettled for good to Rotterdam, where Reininger began to leg extinct as a solo creative person. Tuxedomoon was as well hired to score a Maurice Bejart ballet, the results of which were released in 1982 as Elysian. Reininger left for a solo career in 1983 and was replaced by Frankie Lievaart and horn musician Luc Van Lieshout. In between english projects and marking, the ring sought an international deal for their forthcoming LP Holy place Wars; it was finally released in 1985 and became the band's biggest commercial success. Tong left the group for good that year, difference Brown and Principle the only odd San Francisco members; multi-instrumentalist Ivan Georgiev was chartered to refill the group's legal for 1986's Ship of Fools album and duty hitch. 1987's jazz-fusion-oriented You was Tuxedomoon's last studio record album, although scoring ferment from past projects was subsequently reissued in Belgium. In increase to Reininger, Brown, Principle, and Tong have all recorded as solo artists.

Young blade trains as opera armourer

The Royal Opera House is taking on its first armourer's apprentice to look after weapons used during its productions.

The opera house in London has decided to take on its own trainee to shadow the official armourer because it has become difficult to recruit people with the right skills. University courses relied on by theatreland have been found to lack the right practical content.

The ROH has appointed 20-year-old Robbie Candy to learn the trade, ensuring all the weaponry needed for productions is in the right place at the right time and in good repair. He will also be making items such as knives and sword holsters used by the cast.

Mr Candy was learning to make and repair guitars at Merton College in south London when he was signed up for the post. He works a two-day week at the ROH – full-time during the college holidays.

He was recruited by Bendy Ashfield, the project manager for the scheme at the ROH, who was convinced students on the college's guitar and violin making courses would be ideal for the job.

Mr Candy, who comes from a theatrical family, saw it as an ideal opportunity to enter a world that he wanted to join. "My family history was in the theatre or showbiz so it feels kind of like I should be working in it," he said. "My auntie was in the Royal Ballet and my grandma was a dancer during the war. One of my great uncles was in a tap-dancing trio and then I had a great cousin who was a singer and an actress.

"I didn't have the talent to act or perform so a backstage job was just what I wanted. So far I've made belts and 'frogs' [scabbards] for holding swords. I'll get the chance to make other things later on."

Mr Candy is learning his trade under the tutelage of Rob Barham, who has been the armourer at the ROH for 22 years.

They have just been preparing for Don Carlos by Giuseppe Verdi – an elaborate production which needs 100 swords – which opened this month.

"I have to watch Robbie when he's doing something more dangerous like polishing up the swords for the production," said Mr Barham. "There are certain items that could bite back."

Josh Groban - Groban Honoured To Be Named A Beautiful Person

Singer JOSH GROBAN feels "honoured" to be named in U.S. magazine People's 100 Most Beautiful list - even though he fears ridicule for his inclusion.

The 27-year-old admits he often jokes about the stars chosen by the publication as the most attractive, but accepts he will probably face the same kind of negative attention from his peers.

But Groban insists he doesn't care because he is so pleased to have made it onto the list.

He tells People.com, "I always had a really great time flipping through the magazine and making fun of everybody. I'm really honoured to be one of those people that I'm sure people will be criticising.

"People saying you're beautiful or you're not is not something I generally paid attention to. But I was very, very honoured that they included me in their issue."

Whitney Houston - Houston Loses Her Voice At Caribbean Concert

WHITNEY HOUSTON disappointed fans at a concert in The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday (27Apr08) when she lost her voice.

The pop diva was nearing the end of a 30-minute performance at the Plymoth Jazz Festival when her voice became so raspy she was unable to hit the high notes of her hit single I Will Always Love You.

And the star's vocal strain was not her only embarrassment of the evening.

The star, who cashed in a reported $3 million (GBP1.5million) for the gig, gave her thanks to the crowd at the show's finale, shouting repeatedly, "I love you, Trinidad," despite performing in the southern Caribbean island of Tobago.

Vera dies on Coronation St tonight

One of 'Coronation Street's most-loved characters, Vera Duckworth, will die during tonight's double episode.
Viewers will see husband Jack (Bill Tarmey) distraught as Vera's (Liz Dawn) body is taken away by funeral directors.
Details of how Vera dies have been a closely guarded secret; three different endings were written and the character's final scenes were shot amidst tight security.
Actress Dawn, who suffers from the lung disease emphysema, decided to leave the show to spend more time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She has appeared in more than 3,000 'Coronation Street' episodes over the past 33 years.
Commenting on leaving the show, she said: "It was very emotional filming Vera's death scenes but I do think it is the right decision for the character.  I have had 33 marvellous years in 'Coronation Street' and will miss everyone very much."
Her co-star Tarmey said: "Liz is a wonderful woman. I have worked with her for 29 years and we have never had a cross word. She only left a few weeks ago but already I miss walking on set and seeing her there, I miss working with her - we all do. But we wish her all the love in the world and want her to enjoy her retirement, she deserves it."
